We operate two boats available for daily self steer hire.  One is red (Ruston) and the other is green (Crossley).

 

The boats are 30' long self-steer narrowboats available for hire on an 11.5 mile lock free stretch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, between Wigan Top Lock and Johnson's Hillock Locks at Wheelton.  This stretch has plenty to offer   all the family, with lovely rural views of the Douglas Valley and the Rivington Moors. Amongst the amenities along the way towards Wigan are waterside pubs with good food on offer and Haigh Hall Country Park with playground facilities. In the other direction towards Wheelton you could visit the Botany Bay Complex which has on offer children's play activities, a museum, cafe, several floors of antiques and small shops. There are also places to stop for lunch if you should choose to go in this direction.  Day boats are not permitted through the canal locks.

 

The boats are ideal for groups of all ages and are easy handle. Full instructions are given by staff before you depart to ensure your confidence and comfort. The boats can carry up to 10 people. They are equipped with a W.C., a grill and four burners, hot and cold water supply,, kettle, cutlery and crockery. 

 

We supply buoyancy aids and recommend that they be worn but this is the responsibility of the group.
